VSCO Girls: What was once a photo editing app is now a lifestyle trend

The term “VSCO girls” is taking over the internet. There are memes and TikTtoks being made everyday about what a “VSCO girl” is.

People are using this term to describe the way girls these days are dressing, what they’re buying, and what they’re saying. This is being considered the new term for what once was a “Tumblr girl.”

The term “VSCO” is from a photo editing app and sharing platform. Many girls that are considered a “VSCO girl” use this app to edit and put filters on their photos and share them.

Senior Hannah Nolan learned about “VSCO girls” from memes.

“As the Urban Dictionary says, a VSCO girl is a girl who wears oversized t-shirts, has vans, crocs, or birks, and wears a shell necklace. She always has a Hydro Flask, she can’t leave home without a scrunchie and her favorite car is a jeep,” said Nolan.

Senior Skyler Elwood discovered “VSCO girls” on the social media platform Tik Tok.

“A female that likes to wear oversized shirts, with a messy bun, with about 20 scrunchies on both arms, carrying around their 50 oz Hydro Flask, covered in stickers, while drinking out of it with a metal straw. While saying ‘sksksksk, and I oop, and save the turtles,’” said Elwood.

While some people may actually consider themselves a “VSCO girl,” others believe that it is just a new stereotype of teenage girls.

“It’s a new stereotype, but the people that consider themselves a ‘VSCO girl’ could take it too seriously,” said Elwood. Nolan also agrees.

“It is a stereotype. A girl may fit some of these descriptions but isn’t a ‘VSCO girl’ necessarily,” said Nolan.
