Q: How many years have you been teaching ?
A: This is my 30th year of teaching.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a teacher?
A: Meeting and working with new people.
Q: Why did you decide to be an English teacher?
A: When I was in college I tutored a student in high school and it was exciting to know that I was helping someone.
Q: What English classes have you taught?
A: Composition, College Prep Writing, American Experience, Creative Writing, Communications, Drama, World Literature, English 1.
Q: What college/colleges did you go to?
A: Undergraduate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake; Graduate degree in Education from Viterbo University.
Q: What schools have you taught in?
A: Southeast Polk High School and Pekin Community Schools.
Q: What is your favorite unit in your class?
A: There are too many to think of!
Q: What is your favorite thing about your students?
A: I love the energy and enthusiasm that they bring to class. I also think that it is fun getting to know their hobbies and interests outside of the school day.
Q: If you weren’t a teacher what would you want to be?
A: I am not sure – I can’t imagine being anything else.
Q: How has school changed from when you first started to now?
A: When I first started teaching the internet had not been invented so there were no computers, cell phones, etc. We were still using the card catalog, magazines, and microfilm to do research.
In addition, Mrs Stile has also sponsored or coached the following: junior high volleyball, junior high basketball, large group speech, individual speech, fall play, spring musical, student council, national honor society, pep club, and started the silver cord program at SEP.
