Q: What grade are you in and how old are you?
A: I am 17 and a senior
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: My main instrument is clarinet, but I played bass clarinet for All-State
Q: What made you want to play that instrument?
A: I got a free clarinet when I started band in 5th grade from a relative and I just kind of fell in love with it from there! My band director asked if I could play bass clarinet for our Wind Ensemble going into my freshman year, and I really wanted to be in that group so I agreed! I played bass clarinet in that ensemble for 3 years, and switched to clarinet this year.
Q: How did it feel to make it into All-State?
A: It was a very surreal feeling, I saw my name on the list and almost didn’t believe it. Being considered one of the best players of my instrument in the state is such an honor. It was such an amazing experience and learning process, I became a better musician from both auditioning and making it and that’s been the best part.
Q: Who inspired you most to do music?
A: I don’t think there’s a specific person that inspired me. I’ve just always loved music and always wanted to be a part of it. As I’ve gone through high school, leaders and upperclassmen have been big influences in my music journey, along with some very talented musicians in my own grade.
Q: What are your hopes for band this year?
A: I hope our bands learn and grow together and become the best ensemble we can be! I also hope we get to play some cool and exciting music
