Q: What art classes have you taken? Which one has been your favorite?
A: The art classes I have taken are Art I, II, and III, photography, and drawing. My favorite class is photography because the projects were fun and it allowed me to be creative in a new way.
Q: When did you begin to take an interest in art? Why?
A: I have been interested in art ever since elementary school because my grandpa is a well known artist from my hometown El Paso, Texas, and he inspired me to start doing my own art.
Q: What is your favorite thing about making art?
A: My favorite thing about making art is the room to be creative and to express yourself through your art. Art is like therapy; it allows you to draw what you feel and to express what you love, appreciate, hate, etc. and art helps you find your inner self and to know yourself better than before.
Q: What is your favorite medium to use? Why?
A: My favorite medium is graphite because when I started art, I started with graphite and charcoal and it’s still my favorite all these years. The medium graphite is also easy to work with and it’s not as messy as the medium chalk pastel.
Q: What are your plans for after high school?
A: My plans after high school are to go to college for a master’s degree in music and a minor in literature so I can be a high school music teacher and possibly have art projects on the side.
Q: Do you plan on continuing to make art after high school?
A: Yes, I plan to keep improving in my art and to possibly sell my artworks and to experiment with new mediums and art styles too.
Q: What advice do you have for other students that are interested in art/are considering signing up for an art class?
A: My advice is if you have a passion or an interest in art, I would recommend taking the class. If you want to have art as an option for your future, take photography and drawing because the classes challenge your creativity and your skills to improve them. Try to take your time with class projects and have good time management because it is easy to rush something to get it done. Instead, put all your effort into your projects so you can feel accomplished with the finished project.
Q: Out of the art pieces you’ve made, which are you most proud of?
A: I’ve drawn a lot of projects and some of them I briefly remember but I would say my favorite one from this year is my oil pastel project from drawing class. I drew a close-up of an eyeball and it took me a long time to accomplish because of time and the size of the project was larger than some of the projects I’ve done in the past. Overall, I love the way it looks and it was a long stressful process to work on it but it was all worth it.
