Bored House Wives: Anything But Boring

Student band Bored House Wives was interviewed about their experience as a band earlier this school year; now, reaching the end of the year, they can look back on the growth they have made since. Learning about who they are as a band allowed them to get to a better place with their music and shows. Starting in Mitchellville, the original band consisted of seniors Mason Cleverley, Drew Tassin, and Brue Nicholson working on music aligning similarly to the music each member would listen to.

Cleverly and Tassin listen to more hardcore music while Nicholson and junior Logyn Jeske listen to more grunge music. The differences in the genres the band members listened to allowed them to build off it. As the band worked towards what music they wanted to be making they were experimenting with different things and ended up sticking to punk.

During the song writing process, Tassin writes riffs on guitar which allows Nicholson to play off of those riffs on drums. This process, however, is known to be full of questions and stressful, but the music they have now been able to make is better than it has ever been.

As the band has grown they have started to have more shows, usually once a week or once every other week. They have been able to open for larger bands, the most notable being Dose and Bib. Now with an upcoming festival Pokeyz Fest, Bored House Wives will be playing with one of Tassin’s favorite bands, Lead Spirit. This event will be June 13th and 14th in Iowa City.

Being introduced to larger venues has allowed Bored House Wives to make more friends playing more hardcore music. This caused their original punk music to become more hardcore as they are growing and fine tuning the band they want to be known as.
