March Athlete of the Month: Brice McNeley

Q: What events do you compete in?

A: I mainly compete in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m races.

Q: What is your favorite thing about being involved with track?

A: My favorite thing about being involved with track is the opportunity to train with my teammates and compete with other runners. It gives me a chance to show off the hard work I have been putting in.

Q: Who introduced you to the sport?

A: One of my friends introduced me to track.

Q: What is the most challenging part of track and field?

A: The most challenging part of track is staying consistent. It can be a challenge to decide to run everyday, but as a distance runner it is vital to being good at running.

Q: How long have you been running track?

A: I’ve been running track since I was in 7th grade. 

Q: What is your favorite memory from running track?

A: My favorite memory from running track was running in the 4×8 during the Drake Relays.

Q: What has encouraged you to continue to run?

A: When I think about why I run, I think about how good it feels to win and I have a desire to be the best. I know that I have to put in a lot of hard work to win, so I keep running.

Q: What is your favorite hype song to listen to before a meet?

A: My hype song before I run is “Nice for What” by Drake.

Q: Who is your biggest inspiration/role model?

A: My biggest role model is my dad.

Q: Do you plan to continue running after high school?

A: I will probably continue to run recreationally. I will be attending Iowa State, so unless I get a place on their team I will not be running at the collegiate level.
