Custodian Appreciation: Lisa Versteeg

Custodian Lisa Versteeg.

Q: What year did you start working at Southeast Polk High School?

A: 2015 (8 years ago).

Q: What is your favorite thing about your job?

A: It’s laid back. I know what I have to do I come in and I do it. The best part is I still get to interact with people here.

Q: What do you love about Southeast Polk (the community, school, etc.)?

A: We’re big on teamwork and having everyone work together. Things run better this way.

Q: Where did you work before Southeast Polk?

A: I was a dental assistant.

Q: What is the most interesting part of your job?

A: It’s never boring. Since we’re at the high school level there is always something going on the agenda.

Q: What do you wish students knew about your job?

A: Sometimes jobs aren’t glamorous, but you have to look at the whole picture (wages, benefits). It’s more than something that seems exciting.

Q: Why did you choose to work at Southeast Polk?

A: Two friends told me to apply here because it was a good place to work and I was ready for a career change. I was in a cleaning business before, but I had never thought about custodial work.

Q: What are your favorite things to do while you’re not at work?

A: Kayaking and horseback riding.

A message to students- “For students that are not thinking of college or getting into trade business, working for a school district would be a good career.” -Lisa Versteeg
